Harbison Premiere

Just in case anyone reading this will be in the Los Angeles area next month (Andre, that means you!), I will be performing a new piece by John Harbison at Pepperdine University on Thursday, June 21. The concert begins at 7:30pm. I just received the schedule this afternoon and all the performers for that concert are listed by name except me.* And my part is dang hard! Harumph. Well, anyway, it's still pretty exciting to be doing it.

*ETA: I emailed the person in charge of putting together the publicity stuff, and she said my name was included on everything except the schedule she sent out. She's a pianist herself, was sincerely apologetic, and fixed the problem right away.

Hey, congrats! Harbison is an A-1 composer...that's really cool.

("You there...you didn't give the governor a 'Harumph!'")

Being left off a program is nothing new. Take, for example, the famous accompanist Gerald Moore (spelling???). He mentioned that omission more then once in his delightful book "Am I Playing Too Loud?" which has been out of print for a long time. He was particularly unhappy, as I recall, when he played for some famous singer and he was not at all mentioned on the handbills.

Perhaps you could walk onto the stage with a sign around your neck reading, "Nameless Lowly Wretch."

I wish I could be there to hear it. :)

Congrats on the lecture recital!

Oh, sorry! That's from "Blazing Saddles." Seriously? You've not seen it? Well, there's no accounting for taste (by which I mean MINE, not yours!), but if you enjoy screwball comedy there's not much better than Mel Brooks & Gene Wilder. Rent it...watch it...know it...
